Green Stone Gargoyle by CopperCentipede Green Stone Gargoyle by CopperCentipede
Another traditional style gargoyle made as a gift for a long time friend who happens to collect gargoyles. Carved from a rectangular block I cut from a large chunk of green soapstone. This is the first gargoyle I've done in stone, and my favorite that I've made yet. Really pleased with the face especially. Could've sanded it to a smoother surface and deeper green color, but I liked the facets and planes from the chisel and the way they reflected the light so I left it un-sanded and just polished it to a light sheen.

Roughly 2 inches high. Green soapstone, polished with a cloth and details stained with brown india ink.

He's got a creepy face.

I totally commend your carving things from stone, I imagine the time involved sometimes makes things difficult to part with ;D

Why thank you! I tried to make him properly grotesque and kind of melancholy in traditional gargoyle fashion.
It does make them harder to part with. Ahh. I wish it wasn't.
